What can I expect from an Editana editor?

Each document our editors review will be checked for spelling, grammar and punctuation. What we do from there is somewhat up to you.

For non-academic writing, you can expect our editors to make a number of suggestions, edits and contributions. Really, this depends on what you ask us to do. From simple spelling and grammar checks to commenting on the logical and structural flow of your work, editors may also suggest methods of rewording sentences or paragraphs.

For academic writing, the process is the same. However, we are unable to add any substantial opinion, analysis or reasoning. We are able to reword or suggest sentences and paragraphs. This is to ensure that Editana cannot be held liable for assisting with an act of plagiarism or academic dishonesty.

When you submit a document to us, you are invited to leave comments for our editors to inform them of what you'd like done.

So will you do my whole project for me?

Short answer: No.

Long answer:

Unfortunately, our role is not to do your whole project for you. Our role is to assist you with the writing stage of your project. Once you have put words to a page — be it a first draft or a seventh — we will apply our editing magic. If your writing is not academic in nature, we may, when necessary, provide additional insight either directly to the text or in our comments. However, if you submit academic work to us, we are unable to make direct contributions to your text, although we may make suggestions in the comments.

We also publish a blog containing a wealth of knowledge on writing that will always be useful to your project.

What format does my document need to be in?

We only accept work in Microsoft Word formats. This allows us to make use of the ‘Track Changes’ function in the program. This provides you with the opportunity to review the exact changes and comments that our editors have made, and accept only the changes that you are comfortable with.

What if my document contains images or other graphics?

You are welcome to include images and other graphics in your documents.

Our system has a sophisticated means of counting the words in your document to ensure that the number is accurate. However, when a document contains many images, our word count may diverge from the word count of Microsoft Word by a small margin. Don’t worry, our means of counting reflects the accurate number of words in your document.

How much does it cost and how do you work out the price?

The cost for your document is based on two factors: the word count, and how quickly you would like the turnaround to be. A longer document will cost more, and a faster turnaround will also cost more.
You can check the price for your document at www.editana.com/pricing. Entering an estimated word count will produce an estimated price. If you upload a word document, we will give you an exact price.

What if I am not happy with your work?

If you are not happy with the work performed by our editors, please email us at support@editana.com. We will have a look at your experience with us immediately, and make sure that any issues are resolved.

Will you paraphrase someone else’s work for me?

When you paraphrase someone else’s work, you may be committing plagiarism if you do not properly reference the original author. At Editana, we never approve of plagiarism. It is not appropriate to ask our editors to add paraphrased (and unreferenced) material to your work.

For more information, please refer to our plagiarism policy.

Is asking someone else to edit my work against my school's plagiarism policy?

Nothing about your use of Editana’s services will get you in trouble for plagiarism. On the contrary, asking someone else to review your writing is something done by all writers. This allows you the chance to have a fresh pair of eyes examine your work and offer advice. This is not against your school’s plagiarism policy.

We have a strong policy in relation to plagiarism, and we make it our responsibility to ensure that Editana has no involvement with any material that commits plagiarism.

Do I ever have to acknowledge Editana’s contribution to my work?

Not at all.

Your work is your own, from beginning to completion. We offer a service which provides you with advice and tips—we will never own any of the material we help you to edit. This means you do not have to tell anyone that Editana was involved in the publication of your work. You do not have to list Editana as an author, editor or contributor.

However, from time to time, we may use your material for promotional, educational or otherwise business-related purposes. Sometimes, we just want to show off the quality work our clients send us. Whenever we do this, we take out all information in the document that relates to you personally. This means your name, email address and any information about where you study or work will be removed.

Do you ever offer refunds?

Generally, we do not offer refunds if you change your mind about having your work edited. Our editors begin their tasks quickly after we receive your document.

If an editor fails to meet your deadline, you are given the option to cancel the document. Upon cancelling, you will not receive the partially edited document from our editors, but we will give you a full refund and $10 USD in Editana credit for the inconvenience.

Do you have an affiliate program or a refer-a-friend program?

Yes. Within your profile there is a link which you can send to your friends. When they register and upload their first document for editing, you will both receive Editana credit worth 5% of the document's cost.

You can do this once each with as many friends as you wish.

What if my English is awful?

Don’t worry — nobody is perfect. Even the best writers worry about the quality of their work. Our editors have experience with a wide variety of English levels, and know how to bring out the best in your writing.

Sometimes we may struggle to understand what some of your sentences mean. In those cases, our editors will ensure that each sentence has a proper grammatical meaning. However, we may not accurately represent your original intention. If that happens, we welcome you to resubmit your work to our editorial team. Occasionally, our editors may also highlight portions of your text and suggest that you attempt to rephrase your words in order to add clarity to your writing.

Will you let me know when my work is completed?

Yes. You will be sent a notification via email in which you will find a link that takes you directly to your homepage on Editana.com. There, you will find your completed work. When you receive your edited piece, you will be able to provide feedback on your Editana experience.

Editana will provide you with 1% of your document’s cost as thanks for providing feedback on our editor’s work. Giving feedback is very simple—just two clicks, no comments required.

What do you do with the feedback I provide?

Your feedback will be immediately available to your editor and the editorial manager. Your feedback is used to evaluate the performance of each editor. We look at the feedback provided with each piece of work and maintain an average score for each editor. This helps us to determine whether a particular editor needs additional training.

What can I get out of your blog?

Our blog is designed for everyone as it is used to provide plenty of writing tips for anyone interested. From professional editors to university students and anyone interested in improving their English! We welcome anyone to send us interesting and valuable articles and information that you think will be useful to the Editana community. If you find something, please send it to our Content Manager at support@editana.com. We may make some changes to what you send us, but we will be sure to acknowledge your contribution.

What if Editana can’t meet my deadline?

If you provide us with a document to be edited within a specific timeframe, we will do our best to complete the work according to your deadline. We have a number of systems in place to ensure that work is sent to editors as quickly as possible and that those editors are aware of the timeframe in which they must work.

However, there may be rare occasions in which we are unable to meet your deadline. We hope that this will not happen, but in the case that it does, we have measures in place to respect the inconvenience this may cause you.

If this ever occurs, a button will appear on your dashboard (the page you see when you login to our site) allowing you to cancel the task. If you click this button, the editor will stop editing your document while you will be issued with a full refund along with $10 USD of Editana credit for future use.

Where are you based?

Our English language team is based in Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and several other countries.

How many languages do you support?

Currently, we only support English editing and proofreading. However, we are working on developing the provision of services in several other languages. Keep an eye on our website to see when a new language is made available.

Can I trust you with any sensitive information in my document?

Our editors will never disclose any of the information you provide us to anybody. We have a strong internal Editors’ Code of Conduct that instructs every editor to maintain a strict policy of privacy when it comes to the information you provide us with. This means that you can rest assured knowing your information will never go beyond you and your individual editor. However, if you ever suspect that information you have provided has been disclosed, please email us immediately with any evidence you may have and we will investigate the situation as quickly as possible. If we discover that your information has been disclosed externally, we will take all necessary measures to ensure future compliance.

If you feel uncomfortable with disclosing information to us in a document, we would welcome you to alter this information to take away any identifying features. For example, you may replace a name with ‘John Smith’ or ‘Mr Abcd’.

What kind of writing do you accept? What if I have a novel or a poem?

We accept all types of writing! Poems, novels, short stories, academic articles, university essays, university admission letters — anything you can think of. Our editors are experts in what they do, and will be able to provide feedback and make editorial changes to any of your work.

However, we reserve the right to refuse work on writing that is illegal, makes threats towards a person, or is inappropriate in some other way. If you submit any writing of this kind, one of our editors will return it to the system, and you will receive a notification via email. Please refer to our terms of service for more information.

Does your website support mobile devices?

Yes — to an extent. You can access our website on your mobile device to check into your account and assess the progress of your documents. However, you will need to use a full computer or laptop to upload those documents.

For the best experience, we suggest that you use a computer or laptop to access our website.

I can't make the edits go away!

Firstly, find the 'Review' pane in the top toolbar and click ‘accept’ under ‘changes’. All insertions, deletions and in-line changes will be permanent after that.

After you have read through your editor’s comments and made the changes you want to make, you can remove the comments by clicking the first one and going to the comments section of the review pane. You can delete the comments individually or all at once.

I can't see any edits!

Find the 'Review' pane in the top toolbar. Under tracking, choose ‘Final Showing Markup’ and you will see all of your editor’s changes.

What do I do if a virus was found in my document?

Don't be alarmed, this isn't your fault! Editana's system contains an automatic anti-virus check. If this error has appeared for you, your document cannot be successfully uploaded until it's clear of viruses.

To resolve this, first try initiating an anti-virus check on the document. Many anti-virus programs can help you identify and resolve these issues with a single virus scan. If this doesn't work, you can execute a virus scan on your entire computer as some minor viruses can be conquered in such a manner. However, If none of these methods work, then your computer may be corrupted by powerful malware — or malicious software. If such an issue occurs, Editana recommends that you contact a technician.

Additionally, we strongly encourage all clients to install local anti-virus software (regardless of whether you're using a PC or a Mac) and run anti-virus checks on all documents that are downloaded. There are numerous programs available for free online that can perform these functions: many of these programs have good reputations and can all be found with a bit of research. Because all clients use their computers in different ways and thus have different levels of security, we are afraid that Editana will be unable to take responsibility for any negative outcomes.

If you have further questions, please contact Editana's customer service at support@editana.com.

What does the "reporting system" mean?

Client's document will be reported by our editors, if the document (1) contains material that is inappropriate; or (2) has artificially lowered their word count. Material that is inappropriate is anything that relates to an imminent threat to another person or persons, including by theft, assault and battery, or terrorist activity.

If one of our editors believe that any of your documents contain illegal information, it may be reported. When a document is reported, you will receive a full refund and the document will not be edited. If we consider a document to have been misreported, you will be given $10 USD in Editana credit.
